Why Choose SA 387 Grade 12 CL 1 Material?

Jan 06, 2026 Leave a message

ASME SA387 Grade 12 Class 1 is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel plate designed for use in pressurevessels and boilers working in elevated temperatures, This material combines the corrosion resistance of chromiumwith the high strength and heat resistance of molybdenum. It belongs to the family of alloy steels specified under theASME SA387 and ASTM A387 standards.

1.What is SA 387 Grade 12 CL 1 material?

SA 387 Grade 12 Class 1 is a chromium-molybdenum (Cr-Mo) alloy steel plate, specified by ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) for use in welded boilers, pressure vessels, and other equipment designed for elevated temperature service, offering good corrosion resistance, especially in oil and gas applications. The "Grade 12" indicates its specific Cr/Mo content (around 1% Cr, 0.5% Mo), while "Class 1" signifies lower tensile strength and yield strength compared to Class 2, with specific mechanical properties like a yield strength of 230 MPa (33 ksi).

2.What is the difference between Class 1 and Class 2 steel?

Class 1 is normalized, with a tensile strength of 70-90 ksi and a minimum yield of 50 ksi. Class 2 has a tensile strength of 80-100 ksi and minimum yield strength of 60 ksi.
