What is S890QL high strength steel plate ?

Jan 04, 2026 Leave a message

S890QL is a structural steel grade with an even greater yield strength than S690QL. The material serves as a great option for procurers who wish to promote high strength in a cost effective way. Due to the characteristics of the steel, clients can use this material in numerous applications resulting in a leaner build whilst still maintaining great strength.
S890QL is a water quenched & tempered steel which complies with the EN10025:6:2004 specification.
Please refer to the technical details below referring to S890QL.

Grade Designation

S = Structural Steel

890 = minimum yield strength (MPa)

Q = Quenching & Tempering

L = Low notch toughness testing temperature

1.What is the difference between S890QLand S890Q?

The difference between S890QL and S890Q is the specified minimum impact energy requirement, with S890QL indicating a minimum impact energy of 30 Joules at not lower than -50°C, whereas S890Q typically implies a lower energy level (e.g., 30J at -20°C) or no specific low-temperature impact requirement, making S890QL better suited for colder applications due to its enhanced toughness. Both are high-yield strength structural steels (890 MPa) supplied in the quenched and tempered condition (Q) as per EN 10025-6.

2.What is S890QL material equivalent?

S890QL is an ultra-high strength structural steel (EN 10025-6) with 890 MPa yield strength, quenched & tempered; key equivalents include ASTM A514 (similar properties, different spec), Strenx® 900 E, and commercial names like DILLIMAX 890T or WELDOX 900, with Q890 (China) and TStE 890 V also being comparable grades for similar applications.
