What are the main characteristics of angle steel?
Angle steel, commonly known as angle iron, is a long strip of steel with two sides perpendicular to each other and forming an angle shape. There are two types of angles: equilateral angle steel and unequal angle steel. The two sides of an equilateral angle steel have equal widths. Angle steel can be used to form various load-bearing components according to different structural requirements, and can also be used as a connecting element between components.
Angle steel belongs to the carbon structural steel used for construction, which is a simple section steel. It is mainly used for metal components and the framework of factory buildings. Good weldability, plastic deformation performance, and certain mechanical strength are required during use. The raw material for producing angle steel billets is low-carbon square steel billets, and the finished angle steel is delivered in hot-rolled, normalized or hot-rolled state.
Angle steel is widely used in various building and engineering structures, such as beams, bridges, transmission towers, lifting and transportation machinery, ships, industrial furnaces, reaction towers, cable trench supports, power piping, busbar support installation, container racks, and warehouse shelves.

Inspection method for angle steel
Appearance quality: The surface quality of angle steel is specified in the standard and generally requires that there should be no harmful defects during use, such as layering, scarring, cracks, etc. The allowable range of geometric deviation of angle steel is also specified in the standard (GB9787-88/GB9788-88), which generally includes bending degree, edge width, edge thickness, top angle, theoretical weight, etc., and it is stipulated that angle steel shall not have significant torsion.
Mechanical performance inspection: ① Tensile test method. The commonly used standard inspection methods include GB/T228-87, JISZ2201, JISZ2241, ASTMA370, FOCT1497, BS18, DIN50145, etc Bending test method. The commonly used standard inspection methods include GB/T232-88, JISZ2204, JISZ2248, ASTME290 ГОСТ 14019, DIN50111, etc. The inspection items for evaluating the performance of angle steel mainly include tensile test and bending test. The indicators include yield point, tensile strength, elongation, and qualified bending.
