Marine and Offshore Engineering: It is used to make low-temperature-resistant structural parts and pressure components of offshore platforms and LNG transport ships, adapting to the harsh low-temperature marine environment and ensuring the safety of marine operations.

Power Industry: It is applied in the fabrication of low-temperature auxiliary equipment for thermal power plants and nuclear power plants, such as low-temperature flue gas treatment devices and cryogenic storage tanks for auxiliary media, meeting the strict safety and performance requirements of the power industry.

Application Conditions

To ensure the safe and stable operation of SA662 Grade C, it must be used under the following specific conditions, which are closely related to its material properties and standard requirements:

Temperature Condition: It is mainly suitable for low-temperature service environments with a minimum working temperature of -40℃. It shall not be used in environments lower than this temperature, otherwise its toughness will decrease sharply and brittle fracture may occur. The maximum working temperature shall not exceed 350℃ to avoid the decline of material strength due to high temperature.

Medium Condition: It is applicable to neutral or weakly corrosive media, such as low-temperature hydrocarbons, liquefied gas and dry gas. It shall not be in direct contact with strong corrosive media (such as strong acid, strong alkali and chloride ions with high concentration) for a long time, unless effective anti-corrosion treatment is carried out.

Pressure Condition: It shall be used within the pressure range specified by the design standard. The maximum working pressure shall match its tensile strength and yield strength. Generally, it is suitable for medium and low pressure equipment (working pressure ≤10MPa), and shall not be overloaded to avoid structural damage.

Fabrication and Welding Condition: Strict welding procedures must be followed during fabrication. Preheating (preheating temperature 80-150℃) and post-weld heat treatment (tempering temperature 550-620℃) are required to eliminate welding stress and ensure welding joint toughness. Welding materials shall be matched with the base metal (such as E7018 electrode) to avoid welding defects.

Inspection and Maintenance Condition: Regular non-destructive testing (such as ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing) shall be carried out during service to check for internal defects and surface damage. Routine anti-corrosion maintenance shall be done to avoid rust and corrosion, and the service environment shall be inspected regularly to ensure that it is consistent with the designed application conditions.

What are the inspection requirements for SA662 Grade C plates?

Inspection requirements include chemical composition analysis, tensile test, yield strength test, elongation test, impact test, hardness test, and surface and internal defect detection (e.g., ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing) to ensure compliance with standards.

Can SA662 Grade C be used in boiler manufacturing?

Yes, SA662 Grade C is applicable to boiler manufacturing, especially for low-temperature boiler components such as boiler drums, headers, and pipelines. It meets the temperature and pressure requirements of boiler operation and has good thermal stability.

What is the melting point of SA662 Grade C?

The melting point of SA662 Grade C is approximately 1450-1500°C (2642-2732°F), similar to ordinary carbon steel. This melting point range provides a reference for welding and heat treatment process parameters.

Does SA662 Grade C have good fatigue resistance?

SA662 Grade C has moderate fatigue resistance. It can withstand cyclic loads within a certain range, but in high-cycle fatigue environments, it is necessary to optimize the structural design and surface treatment to improve fatigue life.

What is the delivery condition of SA662 Grade C plates?

SA662 Grade C plates are usually delivered in the normalized or normalized and tempered condition. The delivery condition is clearly specified in the order and test report to ensure the material meets the required mechanical properties.

Can SA662 Grade C be used in offshore oil and gas applications?

SA662 Grade C can be used in offshore oil and gas applications for low-temperature and medium-pressure components, but it needs to undergo strict anti-corrosion treatment and meet offshore industry standards to resist marine atmospheric and seawater corrosion.

What is the modulus of elasticity of SA662 Grade C?

The modulus of elasticity of SA662 Grade C is approximately 200 GPa (29×10⁶ psi) at room temperature. This parameter is important for structural deformation calculation and design in engineering applications.

What is the Poisson's ratio of SA662 Grade C?

The Poisson's ratio of SA662 Grade C is about 0.3 at room temperature. This ratio represents the lateral strain to axial strain when the material is under tensile or compressive stress, which is crucial for structural mechanics analysis.

Can SA662 Grade C be welded to other steel grades?

Yes, SA662 Grade C can be welded to other compatible steel grades (e.g., A36, A516 Grade 70) using appropriate welding methods and consumables. Pre-weld and post-weld heat treatments may be required to ensure weld quality.

What are the storage requirements for SA662 Grade C plates?

SA662 Grade C plates should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated warehouse to avoid moisture, rust, and contamination. They should be placed on wooden pallets away from the ground and corrosive substances to maintain surface quality.
