Products Features

High Strength-to-Weight Ratio:
Enables lighter structures without compromising safety, reducing material consumption and overall cost.

Excellent Weldability:
The low carbon equivalent (CE ≤ 0.47%) allows efficient welding using conventional processes such as SMAW, SAW, and GMAW.

Superior Impact Resistance:
The tempered martensitic microstructure provides strong resistance to brittle fracture, even under shock or cyclic loads.

Good Machinability and Formability:
Suitable for cutting, bending, and forming, ensuring flexibility in fabrication.

Applications of GB/T 16270 Q460D Quenched and Tempered Steel Plate

1. Bridge Construction
Q460D steel is widely used in the fabrication of bridge girders, box beams, and trusses that require excellent load-bearing capacity and high toughness.

Typical yield strength: ≥460 MPa

Tensile strength: 550–720 MPa

Charpy V-notch impact energy: ≥47 J at -20°C
These properties ensure safety and durability in large-span bridge structures subjected to dynamic loads, vibrations, and low-temperature conditions.

2. Offshore and Marine Engineering
In offshore platforms and marine structures, Q460D demonstrates superior resistance to impact, fatigue, and saltwater corrosion.

Toughness retention: Maintains ≥70% strength at subzero temperatures (-40°C).

Corrosion resistance: Improved by microalloying elements such as Ni, Cr, and Cu.
It's ideal for risers, decks, and substructure components in harsh marine environments.

3. Cranes and Heavy Machinery
Q460D plate is used for the manufacture of crane booms, lifting arms, and structural frames where high strength-to-weight ratio is required.

Weight reduction: Up to 15–25% compared with Q345 steel.

Fatigue resistance: Enhanced by low sulfur and phosphorus content (<0.015%).
This allows longer service life and higher operational safety under cyclic loading.

4. High-Rise Buildings
In modern skyscrapers and industrial buildings, Q460D steel is applied in columns, beams, and support frames.

Design load capacity: 1.3–1.5 times higher than conventional structural steel.

Good weldability: Carbon equivalent (CE) ≤0.47 ensures stable welding performance.
Its combination of strength and ductility provides both structural efficiency and seismic resistance.

5. Pressure Vessels and Storage Tanks
Q460D can also be used in moderate-pressure environments such as storage tanks and pressure vessels where both high strength and impact toughness are critical.

Working pressure: Suitable up to 4–6 MPa depending on thickness.

Thickness range: Commonly 8–100 mm.
The quenched and tempered treatment guarantees microstructural uniformity and long-term reliability under pressure fluctuations.
