ASTM W24x279 H Beam Section A36 W Shape Profile

 

W24x279 H-beam is an American standard H-beam that complies with ASTM standard (A36). The "W" in the name indicates the width series, "24" represents the web height of 24 inches, and "279" represents the weight of 279 pounds per foot.

 

 

A36 wf steel beam material and performance


A36 carbon content is usually around 0.25%. It is a common carbon structural steel with good plasticity and welding properties. It is widely used in construction and industrial fields.

Manganese (Mn): 0.80%-1.20%
Silicon (Si): ≤0.40%
Phosphorus (P): ≤0.040%

Performance characteristics
High strength: the yield strength is at least 250 MPa (36,000 psi), and the tensile strength ranges from 400-550 MPa (58,000-80,000 psi).
Good weldability: A36 steel is easy to weld and suitable for a variety of connection methods (such as bolting, riveting and welding).
Good plasticity and toughness: elongation ≥ 20%, suitable for a certain degree of deformation.
Lightweight and high strength: Compared with traditional I-beams, H-beams have a higher section modulus and are lighter at the same load-bearing capacity.
Corrosion resistance: The surface can be galvanized or painted to improve corrosion resistance.

Advantages

Limitations
Relatively low strength: Compared with high-strength low-alloy steels (such as A572GR50 or A992), A36 has a lower yield strength and is not suitable for high-load demand scenarios.
Transportation and storage: Due to its large size, it requires more space for transportation and storage.
