S235JR steel plate
S235JR Products Description
S235JR is part of standard EN 10025, which specifies the technical delivery conditions for structural steels. This standard covers a range of steels, including S235JR, S235J0, S235J2, S275JR, S275J0, S275J2, S355JR, S355J0, S355J2 and S355K2.
The chemical composition of S235JR includes carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur and silicon. It has a minimum yield strength of 235 MPa and a tensile strength of 360-510 MPa. S235JR is also known for its good impact resistance, making it suitable for use in applications where it can be subjected to dynamic loads.
In steel grade S235JR, the "J" and "R" stand for "J0" and "J2" respectively. These are subgrades within the family of S235 steel grades defined by their toughness characteristics.
The designation "J" refers to the Charpy V-notch impact test, which measures the energy absorbed by a material during fracture. In this case, S235J0 and S235J2 are both characterized by a minimum impact energy of 27 J at 0°C and -20°C, respectively.
The "R" designation, on the other hand, stands for "normalizing rolling," a specific heat treatment process to improve the mechanical properties of the steel. S235JR, S235J0, and S235J2 all have the "R" designation, meaning they have been normalized during the manufacturing process.
In short, the "J" and "R" designations in the family of S235 steels refer to subqualities defined by their toughness characteristics and heat treatment processes. While S235JR, S235J0 and S235J2 all share the "R" designation, they have different toughness characteristics due to their "J" sub-designations.
