Jan 22, 2026 Leave a message

info-479-422SPV355 refers to a Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) for steel plates for pressure vessels for intermediate temperature service. It is widely utilized in the petroleum, chemical, and power industries for manufacturing reactors, heat exchangers, and spherical tanks.

SPV is a grade of pressure vessel steel specified in Japanese industrial standards. It is primarily used for manufacturing boilers, storage tanks, reactors and other equipment that must operate under high pressure and temperature. The steel is designed to provide a good combination of strength, toughness and weldability, allowing it to maintain reliable performance in demanding environments. Its microstructure is carefully controlled through processes such as controlled rolling and heat treatment, which help to refine the grain size and improve overall mechanical properties. This makes the material suitable for critical applications where safety and structural integrity are essential. SPV is widely recognized in the pressure vessel industry for its stable quality and consistent performance under long-term service conditions.

Raw Material Preparation:

Select qualified steel billets that meet standard requirements, conduct inspection to ensure no defects like cracks or inclusions, and cut them into appropriate sizes according to production needs.

Heating:

Put the steel billets into a heating furnace, heat them to a specific temperature (controlled precisely) and keep warm for a certain time to make the internal structure uniform and improve plasticity.

Rolling:

Perform controlled rolling on the heated billets using rolling mills. Adjust rolling speed and pressure step by step to form steel plates of required thickness and size, refining the grain structure.

Heat Treatment:

Conduct quenching and tempering processes. Quench to improve hardness and strength, then temper to reduce brittleness and ensure stable mechanical properties.

Finishing:

Carry out surface treatment (derusting, cleaning), straightening, and cutting to length. Conduct final inspection on dimensions, performance and surface quality to meet delivery standards.

Boiler Manufacturing:

Widely used in the production of industrial boilers, including water-tube boilers, fire-tube boilers and waste heat boilers. It is mainly applied to key components such as boiler drums, header pipes and heat exchange tubes, which need to bear high temperature and pressure for a long time to ensure the stable operation of the boiler system.

Pressure Vessel Production:

An important material for manufacturing pressure vessels in petroleum, chemical, natural gas and other industries. It is suitable for vessels that store, transport or react with mediums such as high-pressure gas, liquid chemicals and steam, such as storage tanks, reactors and separators.

Petrochemical Equipment:

Used in the manufacturing of core equipment in petrochemical processing plants, including hydrogenation reactors, catalytic cracking equipment and pipeline systems. These equipments often work in harsh environments such as high temperature, high pressure and corrosive mediums, and SPV can meet their performance requirements.

Thermal Power Generation Equipment:

Applied to key parts of thermal power plants, such as steam turbines, condensers and pipeline manifolds. It can withstand the impact of high-temperature and high-pressure steam, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of power generation equipment.

Marine Engineering Equipment:

Used in the production of marine boilers, pressure vessels and offshore platform supporting equipment. It has good adaptability to marine salt spray corrosion and complex temperature changes, meeting the special requirements of marine engineering.

What is the difference between SPV355 and Q355 steel?

SPV355 is specialized for pressure vessels, with stricter toughness and purity requirements; Q355 is general structural steel, mainly used for buildings and bridges, with different application scenarios and standard specifications.

How to inspect the quality of SPV355 steel plates?

Quality inspection of SPV355 includes chemical composition analysis, mechanical property testing (tensile, yield, impact), ultrasonic flaw detection, appearance inspection, etc., to ensure compliance with standard requirements.

Can SPV355 be used at low temperatures?

SPV355 can be used at moderate low temperatures, but its impact toughness decreases at extremely low temperatures. For low-temperature pressure vessels, low-temperature resistant grades of SPV355 or special treatment are required.

What is the hardness of SPV355?

The Brinell hardness of SPV355 is usually between 137-179 HB. Proper hardness ensures the steel plate has a good balance of strength and toughness, facilitating processing and forming.

What processing methods are suitable for SPV355?

SPV355 is suitable for cutting, bending, stamping, welding and other processing methods. During processing, the temperature and speed should be controlled to avoid affecting its mechanical properties.

What is the maximum operating temperature of SPV355?

The maximum safe operating temperature of SPV355 is generally around 450℃. Exceeding this temperature will lead to a significant decrease in its strength and toughness, endangering the safety of pressure vessels.

Does SPV355 require heat treatment after welding?

SPV355 usually requires stress relief heat treatment after welding to eliminate welding residual stress, reduce the risk of weld cracks, and improve the structural stability and service life of the workpiece.

What is the density of SPV355?

The density of SPV355 is about 7.85 g/cm³, the same as ordinary carbon steel and low-alloy steel. This density value is widely used in weight calculation during pressure vessel design and manufacturing.

What is the elongation requirement of SPV355?

The minimum elongation of SPV355 is 21% (after tensile test). Good elongation ensures the steel plate can undergo plastic deformation without breaking during forming and use.

Can SPV355 be used to make boiler drums?

Yes, SPV355 is an ideal material for boiler drums. Its high strength, good toughness and pressure-bearing capacity meet the strict requirements of boiler drums for working under high temperature and pressure.
