American standard wide flange H-beam W specification full series W12x152

W12x152 h section steel naming rules
W: Indicates wide-flange steel (Wide-Flange Shape), the cross-section shape is I-shaped, the flange width is close to the web thickness, and the mechanical properties are balanced.
12: Indicates that the nominal height of the steel is about 12 inches (the actual height may vary slightly, please refer to the specific specification table).
152: Indicates that the theoretical weight per foot of length is about 152 pounds (that is, 152 lb/ft, converted to metric is 226.3 kg/m).

W12x152 Heavy Wide Flange Steel Applications
Building structures: large-span frame beams, heavy columns (such as industrial plants, key load-bearing components of high-rise buildings); main beams or load-bearing trusses in bridge engineering.
Industrial equipment: heavy machinery bases, crane track beams, equipment support frames.
Special projects: structures in high-intensity earthquake zones (need to cooperate with seismic design to utilize its ductility and strength); offshore platforms, port facilities, and other scenes that require high durability and bearing capacity.

Comparison with other models
Taking the W12 series as an example, the core differences of different weight models are as follows:

model Weight (lb/ft) Height (inches) Flange Width (inches) Typical Uses
W12x14 14 ~12 ~6.5 Lightweight secondary beams and supporting members
W12x53 53 ~12.25 ~8.0 Ordinary frame beams, medium columns
W12x152 152 ~12.625 ~12.06 Heavy beams, large-span load-bearing components

Note: As the weight increases, the flange width and thickness increase significantly, and the bending and torsional resistance are greatly improved.
