ASTM A709 Grade 50 is a high-strength, low-alloy (HSLA) structural steel specifically designed for bridge fabrication and transportation infrastructure.

It offers a minimum yield strength of 50 ksi (345 MPa) and tensile strength between 65–90 ksi (450–620 MPa), with good weldability, toughness, and moderate atmospheric corrosion resistance.
Because it combines high strength and durability under dynamic loads, several international steel standards provide equivalent or comparable grades with similar mechanical performance and composition.

Application
Equivalent steels to A709 Gr.50 are widely used for:
Bridge girders, trusses, and decking plates
Highway overpasses and viaduct frames
Crane and hoisting structures
Structural supports in marine and coastal environments
Railway bridge components exposed to dynamic loads
In typical applications, A709 Gr.50 and its equivalents can safely support stress loads up to 345 MPa and maintain structural integrity for over 40 years under regular bridge service conditions.
