Simply put, the biggest difference between H-shaped steel plates and I-shaped steel plates is that their web thickness is much larger than that of L-shaped steel plates. The thicker the longitudinal beam, the stronger the beam and can withstand greater loads. This means that for the same number of support points, the amount of H-shaped steel you use is less than that used for I-beams.
