Hot Work Tool Steels Product Introduction
GNEE Steel stocks tool steel in rounds, squares and flats. Common grades include A2 tool steel, D2 tool steel, DC-53 tool steel, H13, M2, M4, O1, O6, S5, S7, and others.
Tool steels are a variety of carbon and alloy steels that are especially suited for tool making. Their suitability derives from their unique hardness, wear resistance, ability to hold a cutting edge and/or resistance to deformation at elevated temperatures (red hardness). Tool steels are usually used in the heat-treated condition.
Tool steels contain between 0.7% and 1.5% carbon and are produced under carefully controlled conditions to achieve the required quality. The manganese content is usually kept low to minimize the possibility of cracking during water hardening. However, proper heat treatment of these steels is important to obtain adequate properties, and many suppliers offer tool blanks for oil quenching.
