H-13 Alloy Tool Steel Product Introduction
H-13 is a tool steel alloyed with chromium, molybdenum and vanadium. Molybdenum and vanadium increase the strength of the grade, while chromium helps to soften the material when used at elevated temperatures.H-13 can withstand rapid cooling and even premature heat checking. Characteristics include good machinability and weldability and good ductility.
As a shock-absorbing tool steel, AISI H-13 grades provide an extra margin of safety for tools subjected to heavy hammer blows, and tools containing deep recesses or sharp corners.
H-13 tool steel is a 5% chromium hot work tool steel designed for applications requiring extreme toughness and good red hardness.
Although H13 is designed as a hot work steel, in many cold work applications it can be used to obtain additional toughness at the expense of some wear resistance.
