The specific choice is determined by the designer based on force calculations based on different plans. In fact, it works in most situations. When the pure bending moment and the stress on both sides of the axis are relatively balanced, it is more appropriate to use an I-shaped steel beam and has better stability. When the edges are reinforced and there are certain requirements for appearance, a trough-shaped structure should be used.
