ASTM A1018 is a standard specification for carbon steel, commercial steel, drawn steel, structural steel, high-strength low-alloy steel, and ultra-high-strength steel. A1018 High Strength Low Alloy Steel with Improved Formability (HSLAS-F) Grade 80 has a specified minimum yield strength of 80 ksi.

The hardenability of A1018 alloy steel mainly depends on the carbon content, which is slightly higher than that of carbon steel with the same carbon content. However, the hardenability and tempering stability of alloy steel are significantly improved, so it is suitable for manufacturing cross-section sizes in stainless steel projects. The cooling rate of alloy steel is slower than that of carbon steel during quenching, and it is not easy to deform and crack. This is particularly beneficial for parts with complex shapes or small deformation requirements.
