The difference between H-beam and I-beam
1. Whether the I-section steel is ordinary or light, because the section size is relatively high and narrow, the moment of inertia of the two main sleeves of the section is large, so it can generally only be directly used for the members bent in the web plane or the composition of the lattice force members. The axial compression member or the member that is perpendicular to the web plane and bent should not be used, which makes it have great limitations in the application range.
2. H-shaped steel is an efficient and economical cutting profile (other cold-formed thin-wall steel, pressed steel, etc.). Due to the reasonable cross-section shape, they can make the steel play a higher performance and improve the carrying capacity. Unlike the ordinary I-shaped steel, the flange of the H-shaped steel is widened, and the inner and outer surfaces are usually parallel, which can be easily connected with high-strength bolts and other members. Its size composition series is reasonable, the model is complete, easy to design and choose.

3. The flange of H-shaped steel is of equal thickness, with a rolled section and a combined section composed of 3 plates welded. I-beams are rolled sections, due to poor production technology, the inner edge of the flange has a 1:10 slope. H-beam rolling is different from ordinary I-steel only with a set of horizontal rolls, because of its wider flange and no inclination (or slope is very small), it is necessary to add a set of vertical rolls to roll at the same time, so its rolling process and equipment are more complex than ordinary rolling mills. The maximum height of rolled H-shaped steel that can be produced in China is 800mm, which exceeds the welded composite section only.
China's national standard of hot-rolled H-shaped steel (GB/T11263-1998) divides H-shaped steel into three categories: narrow flange, wide flange and steel pile, and its code is hz, hk and hu. Narrow flange H-shaped steel is suitable for beams or bending members, while wide flange H-shaped steel and H-shaped steel piles are suitable for axial compression members or bending members. Compared with H-beam steel, w, ix and iy are inferior to H-beam steel under the premise of equal weight.
