How do the mechanical properties of Japanese and Chinese standard steel profiles compare?

In terms of yield strength, common Japanese grades like SS400 (yield strength ≥245 MPa) are similar to Chinese Q235 (yield strength ≥235 MPa). However, higher - grade Japanese steels such as SM490YA (yield strength ≥325 MPa) often have better uniformity in strength across different production batches due to stringent quality control.

Tensile strength also shows some differences. For example, SS400 has a tensile strength range of 400 - 510 MPa, while Q235 has a range of 375 - 500 MPa. Japanese steels often exhibit more consistent tensile properties, reducing the risk of unexpected failures. Ductility, measured by elongation, is comparable between the two in standard grades, but Japanese profiles may have an edge in specialized high - performance steels where advanced alloying and heat treatment enhance this property.
