The mechanical properties of angle steel, such as yield strength, tensile strength, and ductility, directly impact its functionality:​

Yield Strength: Ranging from 235 MPa (34 ksi) (e.g., ASTM A36) to 355 MPa (51 ksi), yield strength determines the maximum stress the steel can withstand before permanent deformation. Higher - yield grades like A572 Grade 50 (345 MPa/50 ksi) are ideal for heavy loads, while lower - yield grades suit lighter applications.​

Tensile Strength: Typically 400–550 MPa (58–80 ksi), tensile strength ensures resistance to fracture under extreme loads, such as those from earthquakes or heavy machinery.​

Ductility: With elongation rates of ≥20%, angle steel deforms plastically without sudden failure, absorbing energy in dynamic scenarios like seismic events.​

Toughness: Angle steel's ability to resist cracking under impact (e.g., in cold environments) is enhanced by grades like A36JR, which offers better notch toughness.​
