317L stainless steel channel steel
317L stainless steel is a low carbon, high molybdenum austenitic stainless steel with a higher alloy content compared to standard 304 or 316 stainless steels. The "L" in 317L stands for "Low Carbon," indicating that it has a lower carbon content, typically less than 0.03%, which enhances its resistance to sensitization during welding and reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion.

Stainless steel 317L is a low carbon derivative of SS 317. The metal retains its high strength and strong corrosion resistance; however, the carbon content does have several effects. 317L has more strength under welding; its products are stronger.
Like 317, stainless steel 317L will not react or harden with heat treatment. When hot working, metals should ideally be heated to temperatures in the 2100-2300°F range. Drops below 1700°F will cause the metal to become unresponsive. For these reasons, 317L is very effective in high temperature areas experiencing high chemical attack, creep and stress cracking.
317L is typically used in chemical environments. It has been shown to be effective in the presence of acids, such as acidic chlorides. This metal is resistant to corrosion by these substances. Therefore, 317L is common in equipment used in pulp and paper mills. Sour environments require strong, corrosion-resistant metals.
