S275JR High Strength Low Alloy Steel Plates

As to S275JR VS S355JR, actually they are totally not same thing. S275JR is carbon steel, while S355JR is low alloy steel. Both carbon steel S275JR and S355JR low alloy steel are under EN10025-2 standard. The S355JR low alloy steel is higher steel grade than carbon steel S275JR.
 

Products Description

 

S275JR grade steel is a readily weldable low carbon manganese steel with good impact resistance. According to EN 10025-2, its typical chemical composition includes: Carbon (C) ≤ 0.21%, Manganese (Mn) ≤ 1.50%, Phosphorus (P) ≤ 0.035%, and Sulfur (S) ≤ 0.035%.

 

This material offers a minimum yield strength of 275 MPa, tensile strength in the range of 410–560 MPa, and elongation ≥ 23%, with reliable toughness tested at 27J at 20°C. It is commonly supplied in untreated or normalised condition.

The machinability of this material is comparable to that of mild steel. S275JR steel is usually available in the form of hot-rolled plates (thickness 3–200 mm), coils, profiles such as I-beams, H-beams, channels, angles, and round bars (diameter 10–300 mm).

Products application

 

S275JR grade steel is commonly supplied in the form of long products (such as round bars, profiles, and rails) and flat products (such as hot-rolled plates, medium-thick plates, and coils). It is widely used in the manufacture of welded and riveted steel structures, including bridges, factories, warehouses, towers, ship structures, and port facilities. Owing to its excellent weldability and toughness, S275JR is often applied to building and infrastructure projects for components subjected to medium loads.

 

In the machinery manufacturing industry, S275JR is also frequently used for producing low-load parts such as bushings, shafts, axles, flanges, brackets, and connectors. The typical mechanical properties of this steel include: yield strength ≥ 275 MPa, tensile strength 410–560 MPa, elongation ≥ 23%, and impact resistance of 27J at 20°C, ensuring safety and reliability under normal temperature conditions.
