ASTM A709-50W grade is a weathering steel, a standard specification for structural steel used primarily in the fabrication of steel bridges, with enhanced resistance to atmospheric corrosion.
The atmospheric corrosion resistance of A709 50W in most environments is substantially better than that of carbon steel with or without copper, and a patina is formed by the natural weathering process when exposed to weathering conditions.
ASTM A709-50W has a minimum yield strength of 50 ksi and a minimum tensile strength of 70 ksi.
