SA516 Boiler Plate Product Introduction
SA516 vessel plate is a carbon steel plate mainly used for medium and low temperature welded pressure vessels. The material is available in grades 55, 60, 65 and 70. The ASME SA516 boiler steel specification, part of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), is the standard governing the use of carbon steel in weldable industrial boilers and pressure vessels.
SA516 vessel steel plate specifies the standards for the use of high-quality steel for pressure vessels and boilers at moderate and lower temperatures. The properties of different grades of materials vary, and their performance depends in part on the chemical composition of the steel.
SA516 Gr 70 pressure vessel quality steel mechanical properties:
Stretch: 70 to 90 ksi
Yield Strength: 38 ksi minimum
Elongation: 8 inches minimum 17% 2 inches minimum 21
SA516 Gr 65 boiler steel mechanical properties:
Stretch: 65 to 85 ksi
Yield strength: 35 ksi min
Elongation: 8 inches minimum 19% 2 inches minimum 23

Yield strength: 32 ksi min
