Low Alloy Steel Sheet Product Introduction
HSLA structural steel is manufactured to meet specific mechanical properties such as hardness, strength, corrosion resistance and environmental durability, making HSLA steel ideal for structural construction including truck frames, supports, crane jibs, rail cars and other similar applications .
HSLA steel offers many advantages over regular carbon steel. The presence of alloying components increases strength and hardness since elemental atoms tend to impede movement and deformation in the microstructure of carbon steel. Alloying ingredients such as tungsten, vanadium, silicon, copper, molybdenum and manganese can increase the strength and hardness of carbon steel. Nickel is particularly useful for increasing hardness.
The corrosion resistance of HSLA steel can also be improved. Alloying ingredients such as copper, nickel and chromium can improve the corrosion resistance of steel. This is because the copper, nickel and chromium in HSLA steel oxidize faster than the iron. This prevents iron oxide or rust from mostly settling on the iron.
