S355 is a normalizing steel (fine grain steel) in EN10025-3:2004 standard. Its yield strength and tensile strength correspond to the Q345 low alloy steel in China Q275, is a kind of carbon structural steel, with high strength, good plasticity and cutting performance, certain welding performance, small parts can be quenched and strengthened, mostly used in the manufacture of parts requiring high strength, such as gears, shafts, sprockets, keys, bolts, nuts, agricultural machinery steel, conveyor chains and chain joints.

S275 structural steel offers good weldability properties and discrete mechanical characteristics. These qualities are confirmed in its S275 JR version.

The ending JR provides the indication relating to the energy of resilience, where J identifies a minimum energy of 27 J, and the resilience test temperature, equal to 20°C, is symbolised by the letter R.

Weldability is described by the greater or lesser predisposition of several pieces of material to adhere under the action of heat. The welding process involves heating the material up to a temperature close to the melting point, to allow the parts in contact to take on a soft consistency which subsequently adheres when cold.

S275 corresponds to an unalloyed structural steel for industrial use, supplied in cold drawn sheets, which has characteristics of general suitability for welding.

Its optimal use is foreseen for the production of cold structure elements, in bolts and for the creation of rivets.

Structural steel S355 is a non-alloy structural steel, suitable for cold forming on rolls and for edging.

Structural steel S355 J2C + N corresponds to a normalised state of rolling.

The initials J identifies a minimum energy of 27 J.

The acronym 2 in the identification code refers to an impact test temperature equal to -20°C. The abbreviation C refers to the particular structural use for which it is intended, and the final letter N indicates that the material has undergone a normalised lamination.

This structural steel is used in shipbuilding and railway vehicle construction. S355 steel also finds optimal application for the construction of machinery such as cranes and excavators, as well as in building and piping construction, ventilation systems and pumps.
