A588 weathering steel Product Introduction
ASTM A588 is a high-strength, low-alloy structural steel specification with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance that is used primarily in welded bridges and other structures where weight reduction or increased durability is important, as well as extended service life due to its corrosion resistance.
The atmospheric corrosion resistance of A588 is significantly better than carbon steels such as A36 and A572-50, with or without added copper. When properly designed and exposed to the atmosphere, A588 is suitable for many applications when unpainted.
ASTM A588 has a minimum yield strength of 50 ksi and a minimum tensile strength of 70 ksi.
