The super corrosion resistance of 316L stainless steel comes from the addition of Mo to its elements, which allows it to be used under harsh conditions and has excellent work hardening (non-magnetic). Due to the addition of 2% Mo on the basis of Cr18Ni8, this steel has good resistance to reducing media and pitting corrosion resistance. It has suitable corrosion resistance in various organic acids, inorganic acids, alkalis, salts, and seawater, and its corrosion resistance in reducing acidic media is much better than 304 and 304L.

The corrosion resistance of 316L stainless steel is manifested in:
1. For the same stress intensity, the higher the temperature, the faster the fatigue crack growth rate.
2. Both belong to high plasticity austenitic stainless steel with high tensile strength.
3. The presence of corrosive media accelerates the corrosion fatigue process of steel. For example: the corrosion behavior of 316 steel in boiling MgCl2 solution, the higher the concentration, the higher the boiling point, and the easier it is to crack.
4. The stress corrosion of 316L steel in high temperature water environment is mainly IGSSC (transgranular).
