Products Description

S960Q is a high-strength structural steel grade delivered in a quenched and tempered condition, in accordance with EN 10025-6. With a minimum yield strength of 960 MPa, it provides excellent load-bearing capacity for demanding engineering applications.
The alloy design of S960Q enhances its mechanical performance, giving it superior tensile strength, abrasion resistance, and durability under high-stress operating conditions.
This steel exhibits excellent surface quality, good cold-forming capability, and consistent mechanical properties. Thanks to its high toughness, S960Q offers improved resistance to stress fractures and delivers reliable performance even in low-temperature environments.
Typical mechanical properties include a tensile strength of 940–1100 MPa, elongation of 12–14%, and Charpy V-notch impact toughness of ≥30–40 J at -40°C, depending on thickness.
S960Q plates are available in thicknesses ranging from 4 mm up to 150 mm, with widths up to 4050 mm and lengths up to 15000 mm. The steel maintains excellent weldability, ensuring strong joints even in the heat-affected zone (HAZ).
Thanks to these attributes, S960Q steel plates are widely used in bridge construction, heavy transportation equipment, mining machinery, lifting and material handling equipment, offshore platforms, and structural components where both high strength and reduced weight are essential.

Application of EN10025-6 S960Q Steel Plate in Containers
EN10025-6 S960Q steel plate is an ultra-high-strength structural steel with a minimum yield strength of 960 MPa, supplied in quenched and tempered (Q) condition, offering outstanding mechanical performance and durability. In the field of container manufacturing, S960Q steel plate demonstrates significant advantages.
First, containers must withstand heavy static and dynamic loads during transportation and stacking. Traditional carbon steel container plates often require increased thickness to achieve sufficient strength, while S960Q, with its high yield strength and tensile strength (940–1100 MPa), allows thinner plate design without compromising load-bearing capacity. This enables lightweight construction, reducing the container's self-weight and improving transport efficiency and payload capacity.
Second, S960Q provides excellent weldability and impact toughness. With an impact energy of 30–40 J at -40°C, it ensures that containers maintain superior resistance to impact and cracking even in harsh environments and low-temperature conditions. This is particularly critical for containers used in long-distance shipping and cold regions, as it enhances both safety and service life.
Moreover, since containers are often exposed to salt spray, rain, and fluctuating humidity in global logistics, the alloy composition of S960Q (C ≤0.20%, Si ≤0.80%, Mn ≤1.70%, Ni ≤2.00%, Cr ≤1.50%, Mo ≤0.70%) provides good corrosion resistance and dimensional stability, minimizing the risk of premature damage due to corrosion or fatigue.
As a result, S960Q steel plate is widely applied in standard shipping containers, refrigerated containers, tank containers, and special-purpose transport containers (such as heavy equipment containers and hazardous material containers). It not only improves safety and durability but also helps reduce structural weight, save energy, and lower overall lifecycle maintenance costs.
