Angle steel is carbon structural steel for construction. It is a type of section steel with a simple cross-section. It is mainly used for metal components and plant frames. In use, it is required to have good weldability, plastic deformation properties and certain mechanical strength. The raw material billet for the production of angle steel is low carbon billet, and the finished angle steel is delivered in hot rolled, normalized or hot rolled condition.
A36 is a low carbon steel. Low carbon steel has a carbon content of less than 0.3%. This makes A36 steel easy to machine, weld, and form, making it ideal for use as a general purpose steel. Low carbon also prevents heat treatment from affecting A36 steel. A36 steel also contains small amounts of other alloying elements such as manganese, sulfur, phosphorus, and silicon. The addition of these alloying elements gives A36 steel the desired chemical and mechanical properties. Since the nickel and chromium content of A36 is too little, its corrosion resistance is not very outstanding.
The ultimate tensile strength of A36 steel ranges from 58,000 psi to 79,800 psi.The exact ultimate tensile strength depends on a number of factors, such as chemical composition and forming method.A36 is relatively ductile, and can be elongated up to about 20% of its original length during tensile testing. Its ductility and strength also give it excellent impact strength at room temperature.
A36 is manufactured in a manner similar to most carbon steels. First, iron ore and coal are mixed in a furnace. Impurities are removed and alloying elements are added to the steel, which will eventually solidify into a rectangular ingot.A36 steel is generally hot rolled, which means that rolls can be used to shape it to its final size while the ingot is at a high temperature.
