High Speed Tool Steel Product Introduction
Molybdenum high-speed steel, also known as M-group steel, has a lower initial cost. Types M1 to M10 molybdenum steel contain tungsten, while type M6 molybdenum steel does not contain cobalt. These types of molybdenum HSS contain no cobalt at all.
Molybdenum is a silvery-white metal that can be alloyed with other elements. Molybdenum has significant carbide-forming ability, which increases temper brittleness and promotes the formation of fine grains. Molybdenum has high weldability and is prone to secondary hardening during tempering. The melting point of molybdenum steel is lower than that of tungsten steel.
The classification of molybdenum high speed steel is as follows:
Types M 1 through M 10 (except Type M6) contain some tungsten but no cobalt.
Models M30 and M40 are cobalt-based, molybdenum-tungsten, premium types
Type M40 and above are ultra-high speed steels.
