ASTM A533 boiler container plate is a manganese-molybdenum and manganese-molybdenum-nickel alloy steel plate suitable for welded pressure vessels. It is usually supplied in a quenched and tempered state. ASTM A533 boiler container steel has five different strength levels: Class A, Class B, Class C, Class D, and Class E. Each class has three grades: Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3. The minimum thickness limit of all ASTM A533 boiler container plates is 0.25 inches, that is, 6.5mm.

The upper limit of the thickness of Class 1 and Class 2 ASTM A533 boiler container plates is limited only by the ability of the chemical composition to meet the specified mechanical property requirements. However, currently, the thickness of ASTM A533 boiler container plates of Class A/B/C/D is generally limited to 12 inches, i.e. 300mm. The thickness of ASTM A533 boiler container plates of Class E is limited to 7 inches, i.e. 180mm.

For Grade 3 ASTM A533 boiler container plates, the upper limit of the thickness of Class A/B/C/D steel plates is 2.5 inches, i.e. 65mm, and the thickness of Class E steel plates can reach 2 inches, i.e. 50mm.
