Alloy 600 is a nickel-chromium alloy designed for use at temperatures ranging from low to 2000°F (1093°C), with good resistance to oxidation at higher temperatures, carburizing and chloride-containing environments Has good antioxidant properties. The alloy's high nickel content renders it highly resistant to reducing conditions and makes it resistant to corrosion by many organic and inorganic compounds. The nickel content gives it excellent resistance to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking and also provides excellent resistance to alkaline solutions.
Its chromium content makes the alloy resistant to sulfur-containing compounds and various oxidizing environments. The alloy's chromium content makes it superior to commercial pure nickel under oxidizing conditions. In strongly oxidizing solutions, such as hot concentrated nitric acid, 600 has poor oxidation resistance. Alloy 600 is relatively immune to corrosion by most neutral and alkaline salt solutions and is used in some corrosive environments. This alloy is resistant to steam and mixtures of steam, air and carbon dioxide.
