ASTM A36 steel is one of the most widely used carbon structural steels, although A36 material has a maximum carbon content of 0.29%, it is considered a low carbon steel (carbon content ≤ 0.25%).

Note: Shapes with flange thickness greater than 3 in (75 mm) require a manganese content of 0.85-1.35% and a silicon content of 0.15-0.40%.
