Heat treatment process of Q355 steel
Annealing: Annealing involves heating Q355 steel to a temperature above its critical temperature and holding it at that temperature for a specific time, then slowly cooling it. The process helps refine the microstructure, eliminate internal stress, and improve machinability and ductility.
Normalizing: Normalizing is similar to annealing, but involves cooling the steel in still air instead of cooling it slowly. This process produces a more uniform microstructure and improves the mechanical properties of the steel, such as strength and toughness.
Quenching and tempering: Quenching involves rapid cooling of Q355 steel from high temperatures to room temperature, usually using water or oil. This process produces a hard, brittle structure called martensite. The steel is then tempered by reheating it to a specific temperature and holding it for a certain amount of time to reduce brittleness and increase toughness while maintaining the desired hardness level.
Isothermal quenching: Isothermal quenching is a heat treatment process that involves quenching Q355 steel to a temperature just above the martensitic starting temperature and holding it at that temperature for an extended period of time. This process results in a structure called bainite, which has both high strength and good ductility.
ASTM A572 Gr.50 steel is an American standard High strength Low alloy (HSLA) structural steel. It has a minimum yield strength of 345 MPa (50 ksi) and is commonly used in structural applications such as construction and Bridges. On the other hand, Q355 steel is a Chinese standard low-alloy high-strength structural steel. Although they have similar strength levels, the chemical composition and mechanical properties may differ.
