The mechanical properties of Q235B steel in China are similar to those of SS400 steel in Japan. JIS Steel grade SS400 is basically equivalent to Q235B steel in China, but there are some differences in specific indicators. Steel grade SS400 equivalent Q235B requires the content of C, Si, Mn, S, P and other elements, but steel grade SS400 only requires S, P less than 0.050. The yield point of steel grade SS400 equivalent Q235B is greater than 235 MPa, while steel grade SS400 yield point is 205MPa. SS400 steel means steel with tensile strength greater than 400 MPa for general structure. Steel grade SS400 equivalent Q235B means ordinary carbon structural steel with yield point greater than 235MPa. The standard number of SS400 steel is JIS G3101. The standard number of steel grade SS400 equivalent Q235B is GB/T 700.

The difference between toughness and hardness is that a material that deforms extensively without breaking can be called exceedingly tough but not hard.
