Stainless steel grade 321 is an austenitic stainless steel that contains titanium as a stabilizing element. The main components of this steel are iron, chromium (17-19%), and nickel (9-12%). The addition of titanium helps prevent the formation of chromium carbide during high-temperature exposure, making it resistant to intergranular corrosion.

321 stainless steel is a very stable stainless steel. When the temperature reaches 800-1500°F (427-816°C) and chromium carbide precipitates, it can still maintain good resistance to intergranular corrosion. Due to the addition of titanium to the composition, the 321 stainless steel alloy remains stable in the presence of chromium carbide formation.
