316 stainless steel is a mixture of austenitic and ferritic stainless steels that have higher nickel content and molybdenum. The increase in these elements gives 316 Stainless Steel Angle greater corrosion and high temperature resistance. In the marine environment, chemical industry and medical field, the corrosion resistance of 316 stainless steel angle is significantly better than that of 304 Ss. In addition, 316 stainless steel is more resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion.
The difference between stainless steel 316 and 304
1. raw material price difference: due to the addition of molybdenum and nickel elements in 316, the composition is more complex, more difficult to process. 316 stainless steel is more expensive than 304 stainless steel.
2. Strength and hardness: 316 stainless steel strength and hardness is higher than 304 stainless steel, more wear-resistant and fatigue-resistant, suitable for use in high-pressure, high-temperature and high load environment.
3. Stainless steel grade difference: 304 stainless steel is mainly 06Cr19Ni10, 316 stainless steel is mainly 0Cr17Ni12Mo2. 316 stainless steel chemical composition includes 16%-18% chromium (Cr), 10%-14% nickel (Ni) and 2%-3% molybdenum (Mo), while 304 stainless steel chemical composition contains 18% chromium (Cr) and 8% nickel (Ni).
4. Material corrosion resistance difference: 316 stainless steel, in 304 stainless steel resistance to pitting corrosion on the stainless steel, add some more molybdenum produced by the stainless steel, so 316 stainless steel in the chlorine-containing environment corrosion resistance is better than the 304 stainless steel, including in seawater, salt water or chloride-containing environment. This is mainly because 316 stainless steel added molybdenum can significantly improve its corrosion resistance.
