ASTM A36 Steel Plate is one of the most common grades of steel used in structural applications. This mild carbon steel grade contains chemical alloys that give it properties such as machinability, ductility, and strength that are ideal for use in constructing a variety of structures. ASTM A572 GR 50 is a high strength low alloy steel. Grade 50 is difficult to form since it contains more alloying elements than plain steel but offers more strength per unit of weight. MECHANICAL PROPERTIES

Due to the differences in the chemical compositions of A36 and A572 steel, these materials differ in their mechanical properties, including yield strength, which measures the point at which a material permanently changes shape after experiencing high forces, and tensile strength, which measures the force needed to cause the material to break or fail.

The higher presence of strengthening alloys, such as manganese and silicon, in the grades of the A572 plate gives the material greater strength compared to A36. This high strength allows A572 steel to withstand more weight and greater forces without breaking or failing, which is critical in structural applications.
