A572 Round Steel

A572 Round steel has a smooth, rounded appearance with no grain or ribs as compared to other reinforcing bars, which results in lower adhesion of round steel to concrete and higher adhesion of other reinforcing bars to concrete.

A572 Round steel is a long, solid steel with a round cross-section. Its specification is given in millimetres of diameter, e.g. "50" denotes round steel with a diameter of 50 mm. There are three types of round steel: hot-rolled, forged and cold-drawn. Hot-rolled round steel is available in sizes ranging from 5.5 mm to 250 mm. Smaller rounds of 5.5-25 mm are mostly supplied in straight bundles and are commonly used for reinforcing bars, bolts, and a variety of machine parts. Rounds larger than 25 mm are used primarily for the manufacture of machine parts or seamless steel pipe billets.
