corten structural steel Product Introduction
ASTM A242 is a high-strength, low-alloy structural steel with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance and higher temperature resistance to sustained temperatures up to 800 degrees Fahrenheit.
The atmospheric corrosion resistance of A242 is significantly better than carbon steels such as A36 and A572-50, with or without copper additions. Weathering steels, however, are made from ordinary carbon steel with small amounts of copper, nickel, and other corrosion-resistant elements, and are characterized by toughness, plastic extension, forming, welding, abrasion resistance, high temperatures, fatigue resistance, and other properties of high quality steels.
ASTM A242 has a minimum yield strength of 50ksi and a minimum tensile strength of 70ksi.
